Macau is a dynamic city about 30 square kilometres in size, located on the southeastern coast of China. Once a sleepy fishing village under Portuguese colonial rule for more than 400 years, it has since become a popular entertainment and tourist destination that welcomes in excess of 30 million visitors annually.

As the only Chinese jurisdiction in which gambling is legal, Macau overtook Las Vegas in 2006 to become the world’s biggest gaming market by revenue.

The city has entered into a fresh phase of growth anchored by strong demographics, rising local incomes, major infrastructure projects and the government’s commitment to diversify the economy towards a broad-based mix of commercial activities, attracting a more sophisticated visitor profile.
